Home education is an adventure, and beginning to home educate is like going on a journey. Here are some steps to make your journey more pleasant.

  1. Begin investigating the various methods of instruction and curricula available to home educators.  The choices for home educators is almost limitless -- you must determine which style of curriculum works best for you and your children. (Visit our Books to Read page for great places to start searching for information.)

  2. Join Home School Legal Defense Association. (A link to HSLDA can be found on our Organizations page.)

  3. Attend the Christian Home Educators of Ohio (CHEO) Convention, held annually in late June. The convention offers informative and inspirational workshops and guest speakers as well as the largest vendor hall display in the state. (Visit our Organizations page for a link to CHEO and information about their upcoming convention.)

  4. Consider Joining CHEO. CHEO is a great source of information and support to homeschoolers statewide.

  5. Join a local Support Group. To find out about support groups in your area, contact (Christian Home Educators of Ohio) to be put in touch with your local CHEO representative who can direct you to groups in your area.

  6. Complete and mail your notification form. Copies of the form may be obtained from CHEO, your local support group leader, or by clicking here.  Keep a copy of your entire notification packet, and send the original to the superintendent by certified mail (return receipt requested). HOTR offers an annual Notification Workshop on completing the notification process.

  7. Begin your home education adventure!
