HOTR Statement of Faith

Statement of Faith

For Home on the Rock Christian Home Educators

We ask you to sign this Statement of Faith because, unless we share common beliefs, we cannot fulfill our Statements of Ministry and Purpose.

We believe the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired and inerrant Word of God, and the final authority for faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16)

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 4:4-6, Matthew 28:19, John 14:9-11, John 15:26).

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:16, Mark 8:27-29, Luke 9:18-20), His virgin birth (Luke 1:29-35), His sinless life (1 John 3:5), His miracles (Acts 2:22, John 3:2), His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood (Romans 3:25, 1 Timothy 2:5-6, 1 Peter 1:18-19), His bodily resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-5), His ascension (Luke 24:50-53, Acts 1:9-11), and His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, John 14:2-3).

We believe in the resurrection of all men; the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (John 5:28-29, John 5:24).

We believe that all men are sinful by nature, and that salvation is the gift of God given to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 3:22-24).

We believe that we should live in such a manner as to not bring reproach upon our Savior and Lord (Matthew 5:16, Philippians 1:27).

We believe it is our obligation as believers to witness by life and word to the truths of the Gospel and proclaim these truths to all mankind (Matthew 28:19-20).

We believe God, in His Word, has given parents the responsibility and authority to educate their children in a Godly manner (Deuteronomy 6:6-7, Proverbs 22:6).

I have read and agree with these basic beliefs of Home on the Rock Christian Home Educators, and if, at some point, my beliefs should change and cause disharmony within the group, I agree willingly to withdraw from the group.

Getting Started

Home education is an adventure, and beginning to home educate is like going on a journey. Here are some steps to make your journey more pleasant.

Begin investigating the various methods of instruction and curricula available to home educators.  The choices for home educators is almost limitless  and you will want to select the style of curriculum that works best for you and your children. (Visit our Books to Read page for great places to start searching for information.)

Join Home School Legal Defense Association. HSLDA supports and defends our freedom to home educate. Their website is an excellent source of information for both new and experienced home educators.

Attend a homeschool convention.  There are two conventions offered annually in Ohio — one in mid-spring and one in late June. Both offer informative workshops and a large vendor hall display where attendees can view curricula.

  • CHEO (Christian Home Educators of Ohio) Convention, held annually in late June. For information visit CHEO.
  • Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati, held annually in mid-spring. For information visit Midwest Homeschool Convention.

Join a local Support Group. To find out about support groups in your area, contact Christian Home Educators of Ohio to be put in touch with your local CHEO representative who can direct you to groups in your area.

Complete and mail your notification form. Copies of the form may be obtained from CHEO, your local support group leader, or by clicking here.  Keep a copy of your entire notification packet, and send the original to the superintendent by certified mail (return receipt requested). HOTR offers an annual Notification Workshop on completing the notification process.

Begin your home education adventure!
